Hesiod referred to two harpies, named Aello and Ocypete. (There are variations on both of these names.) Homer knew of a third, named Podarge ('fleet–foot'). The harpies were the daughters of Thaumus (a sea god) and the Oceanid, or sea nymph, Electra (a.k.a. Ozomene).
